Stuffpuppies (Stuffing Ball Hushpuppies) Thanksgiving Recipe

As you know, I love to cook and experiment in the kitchen. When it comes to stuffing for the holidays, though? I don’t mess around.

For Thanksgiving, I always go classic with Stove Top Stuffing. For over 40 years, Stove Top Stuffing Mix has been America’s favorite stuffing, which includes my family. In fact, my husband will not consider anything else BUT Stove Top Stuffing!

That’s because Stove Top Stuffing is stress free, each box contains everything you need, like vegetables, seasonings, herbs, spices and breadcrumbs that are packed with flavor. This mix can also be prepared on the stove, in a pot or even in the microwave. My vegetarian friends LOVE that they can still have stuffing at my house because it isn’t made in the bird.

Basically, if it isn’t Stove Top, it isn’t Thanksgiving. My loyalty to Stove Top Stuffing doesn’t mean that I can’t get creative though!

Speaking of being creative, have you seen Stove Top’s Stuffle?

The stuffle is a twist on your typical leftover turkey sandwich. What makes it unique is that you use your waffle iron to create golden brown stuffing slices to hold all of the components together. I have to say, that’s genius!

Stove Top asked if I could #StoveTopThis unique idea for a cool holiday side dish, and I accepted the challenge!

My idea? “Stuffpuppies” (a take on hushpuppies). If you haven’t spent a lot of time in the South you might not be familiar with hushpuppies. But believe me, you’ll want to spend some time getting to know them, and my stuffpuppies are just the way to do it!

Stuffpuppies (Stuffing Ball Hushpuppies) Thanksgiving Recipe

  • 1 box Turkey Stove Top Stuffing Mix
  • 1 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 can whole cranberry sauce
  • fresh parsley, chopped

  1. Make Stove Top Stuffing Mix according to the box instructions. Let cool for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Using a mini cookie scooper, scoop stuffing and shape with hands to create balls. Place on parchment or wax paper to avoid sticking.
  3. Heat a large skillet with olive oil over medium heat. Using tongs, place 8-10 stuffing balls into the skillet, browning all sides. Once brown on all sides, place on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
  4. Garnish balls with parsley and serve with whole cranberry sauce as a dip!
