7 things to do in winter to prepare yourself for summer
However much you want to hibernate throughout the cold winter months, dreaming of the summer sun, it’s always important to think ahead and use this time to prepare yourself for the warmer weather. Below is a list of 7 things you should be doing during winter that will ensure you’re not left out in the cold once summer comes back around.
During winter, your skin can become damaged by the elements so it’s important to stay diligent when it comes to skincare. Cold winds can really dry out your lips and face, so a good moisturizer and lip balm are essential. It’s also good to keep up with your SPF protection daily as although you can’t feel the sun as much, those dangerous UV rays are still present!
2. Get Fit
Did the fad diet and panicked spring gym sessions fail to give you the summer body you’ve always dreamed of? Ensure you plan ahead this year and keep in mind that summer bodies are made in winter. Although waking up for a run on cold winter mornings may be a struggle, try and stay motivated, you’ll thank yourself come bikini season.
3. Laser Hair Removal
Winter is an excellent time to book in your laser hair removal treatment as most technicians advise that you should avoid sun exposure before and after treatment. Not only that, undergoing laser treatment during the winter months means there’s less risk of unwanted body hair ruining a spontaneous trip to the beach once the sun finally makes an appearance.
4. Declutter and Donate
Quiet winter evenings are the perfect time to get a head start on the spring cleaning. Decluttering and getting up to date with any odd jobs around the house can ensure you’re not stuck inside once the weather begins to improve. For a real mood booster, you could donate any of the items you no longer want to a charity. Not only will this help someone less fortunate than yourself, it will also make you feel like you’ve done something great!
5. Give your hands and feet some TLC
Although winter months are not the time to be donning your favorite pool sliders, it’s still important that you care for your feet. Your hands and feet can get particularly dry during winter and this can also cause a negative impact on your nails and cuticles. Invest in a good moisturizer and try to give your nails a break from the polish.
6. Prepare your hair
Similar to hands and feet, your hair can also get dry and damaged due to the cold weather. Ensure you keep your hair soft and hydrated by using a moisture-boosting conditioner and reduce blow drying and heat styling. Winter is also a good time to grow your hair out or save up for a haircut if you’re thinking of taking on a new look for summer.
7. Refresh your makeup
Spend an evening organizing your makeup collection and throw out any items that may be old or that are starting to look or smell past their sell by date. We often require less makeup on sun kissed skin so discard any heavy makeup that you will no longer need and replace with more summer appropriate items. When buying makeup for summer, always ensure that they have SPF protection.
All of the above should keep you entertained throughout the winter period whilst making sure that you look and feel fully prepared for summer.
